5 Alternate Spring-Cleaning Ideas

Let’s face it, we’ve had plenty of time to get the house looking spick and span, if you haven’t got everything sorted yet, make that your priority this spring. If you have made the most of all the extra time at home, then these are some alternate spring-cleaning ideas… Just when you thought you were in the clear.

1. Bottomless inbox

You either have a few thousand unread emails and try to ignore the little counter, or you hide them in folders within folders and pretend they’re not there – they are there, and this is the time to sift through them and get rid of everything you don’t need. Save anything important, make sure your contacts are saved, then try going through your emails in bulk, using search terms to delete them in groups. Imagine your emails as real post – scary isn’t it. You’ll probably have to work through them in batches, but once you get started, you’ll be surprised how quickly you get through it.

2. The garage is also part of the house

If you can’t find a place for something, do you chuck it in the garage? Now’s the time to decide if you truly need those somethings. We’re not saying you should turf your camping equipment because you haven’t used them in the last six months, but we’re pretty sure there’s some stuff you’ve been holding onto for far too long. For the things you’re keeping, make sure they are stored nice and neatly so they don’t get in the way of your day-to-day. As for the rest, there’s likely someone out there right now who needs the things you don’t – think about paying it forward.

3. While you’re in the garage, clean out your car

There are those who like to keep their car interior spotless at all times, removing stray items as soon as humanly possible – and then there are those who don’t. If your car tends to become a laundry, takeaway and online shopping service on wheels, then this is a good time to clear out all that junk in the trunk… and back seat, and door wells, and cup holders, you get the idea. This is a very good time to resolve to curb that bad habit and become more like those organised people.

4. Make space for new memories

Do you save every funny image you come across? Or maybe you take forty photos at a time to guarantee a perfect shot of that memorable moment. Either way, most of us are walking around with devices that are over spilling their storage capacity. We may like to use the cloud and pretend we’ve got it all sorted, but there’s a limit to all of these options. The only way to free up some space and make room for exciting new memories is to delete the other 39 photos and clear out everything you don’t need. Yes, that meme might have given you a laugh, but there’s plenty more out there to chuckle over.
